Sapphire Skies Beaked Blue Yucca

Sapphire Skies Beaked Blue Yucca

Of plants hardy throughout the Western US, few can hold a candle to the spectacular form and flower display provided by Yucca rostrataSapphire Skies’. Selected by Sean Hogan of Cistus Nursery (Oregon) for exceptionally blue foliage, this selection develops a massive presence over decades. Plants grow into tall-trunked; palm tree-like forms topped with strappy, powder-blue leaves that wiggle in the breeze to yield an almost shimmering look.

Sapphire Skies Yucca plants can reach ten feet or more high, and with 3’-5’+ flower spikes atop their palm-like forms in early summer, that feels almost tropical. This large yucca is at home in a hot microclimate with good drainage. Best with either gravel mulch or no mulch at all.

One of few tree-form Yuccas that succeeds in moderately cold winter climates, including much of the Denver area. May struggle in areas that retain winter snow cover for extended periods of time.
